For the health- and wellness-informed, information is power. In this new series of blogs which we launch here, we present beneficial information in an alphabetical order about valuable supplements, many of them entirely natural. Some of these are well-known, and others are not.
We have covered ground before in this manner, running through the alphabet to feature various supplements and herbs that begin with a certain letter, starting with A and going through Z. This time, we will in many cases introduce and discuss natural remedies that haven’t been covered in our previous iterations of this alphabetized approach.
In this particular blog, we discuss the benefits of acai, adrenal extract, apple cider vinegar, and arginine. Without further ado or adjournment, here is Part I of ‘Alphabet Soup’ of Supplements for Bodily Health: ‘A’.
Acai berries are small, dark, highly nutritious berries native to Central and South America, and are made available in oral supplement form. Deemed a “superfood,” acai’s assorted health benefits are attributable in large part to its strong antioxidant properties. The polyphenols in acai can combat oxidative stress and reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s), and obesity. The antioxidants in acai also support brain health by preventing memory decline, and can also slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease. Acai also aids digestion and can help lower cholesterol levels.
Adrenal extract is a product made from the extract of the adrenal glands of an animal (typically a cow, pig, or other animal). The theory by which adrenal extract gets its reputation is that these animal-derived extracts contribute to adrenal functioning, and therefore hormonal health, in people. It has also been recommended to be used in treating adrenal exhaustion. An adrenal extract supplement may contain vitamin C and other healthy vitamins and minerals, in addition to adrenal extract, in order to bolster its health benefits.
Apple cider vinegar is made from crushed apples, and has multiple health applications. One form of apple cider vinegar (ACV) is in concentrated pill form, which is more tolerable than the liquid form because the taste of apple cider vinegar itself is pungent and acidic. Some studies support the use of ACV for certain general health benefits such as reducing cholesterol and managing blood sugar levels. ACV could also support weight loss, in part by contributing to the loss of visceral belly fat.
Arginine is a natural amino acid which is a substance necessary to the formation of proteins in the human body. The form of arginine most common in supplements is l-arginine, which is a chemical “free form” of the amino acid. Upping your arginine intake for protein synthesis can help with cell production and repair, repairing damaged tissues, and helping cells do their work. Taking an arginine supplement could be an effective help in treating angina, hypertension, and other medical conditions.
With that, our alphabetical examination of supplements on the market in 2026 has begun. Consider the plant-derived benefits of acai and apple cider vinegar, the hormonal benefits of adrenal extract, and the protein-building benefits of arginine. Speak with your healthcare provider before taking any supplement for the first time.
