There are a lot of good-quality supplements available on the retail market. In order to put before you a few supplements you might not otherwise see or hear about, but which could benefit you, here are four excellent natural supplements that have one main theme in common: They all start with the letter “E”.

Vitamin E is perhaps the most obvious “E” supplement, and its benefits cannot be understated. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble nutrient that performs many functions in the body. There are multiple forms of vitamin E, and alpha-tocopherol is one of the most common. Many benefits can come from supplementing with vitamin E. First, research shows that taking vitamin E can reduce oxidative damage to the body and protect cells. That is especially beneficial for those with liver damage, and other types of disease. Vitamin E can also reduce high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, thereby mitigating the risk of heart disease. Other potential benefits of vitamin E include improved skin health, better cognition, and improved lung function for those with asthma.

Echinacea is the name for a group of flowering plants native to North America. An echinacea supplement is usually made from two or three strains of this plant, including echinacea purpurea and echinacea angustifolia. Echinacea is known for its antioxidant contents. Research suggests that supplementing with echinacea can bolster the immune system, and reduce risk of developing a respiratory infection. Another potential benefit is that of reducing elevated blood sugar levels by suppressing carbohydrate-digesting enzymes, and boosting insulin sensitivity.

Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) is an herb that grows in North America and other parts of the world. The above-ground parts of the plant – the stems, leaves, and flowers – have long been used as an herbal remedy, and today are harvested and condensed into an oral supplement. Eyebright contains natural flavonoids which have an antihistamine effect, reducing the watery eyes and other symptoms of seasonal allergies. Appropriately, eyebright protects the eyes furthermore by reducing eye inflammation that can occur due to UV exposure and other environmental factors.

Evening primrose oil: Evening primrose is a plant native to North America, Europe, and other parts of the world. Evening primrose oil (EPO) has been used for hundreds of years as a natural remedy. There are uses attributed to evening primrose oil today that are supported by science. First, taking evening primrose oil could improve skin health. The fatty acids in EPO can reduce inflammation that causes eczema. Research also shows that EPO could reduce bodily levels of triglycerides, which can contribute to heart-disease risk if they are too high. Furthermore, other research shows that EPO contains phytoestrogens which can help women experiencing menopause by reducing hot flashes and other troublesome symptoms.

The excellent natural “E” supplements here provide a multiplicity of potential benefits. Consider how these might help you and/or others in your household. It’s recommended that you always talk to your healthcare provider before taking a supplement for the first time.
