Natural Ways (and Supplements) to Help Women Feel Better

Expensive ointments, diets and other formulas designed to improve a woman's appearance — and the way she feels — have generated a multi-billion dollar industry. However, the key to feeling and looking great could be as easy as regularly exercising, eating right and reaching for several important vitamins and nutrients. Take a look at the nutrients women should be including in their daily routines, whether through foods or as a supplement: Vitamin D: Women are susceptible to cancer, particularly breast and cervical cancer. That's why researchers have been particularly interested in Vitamin D, which has been identified for its apparent ability to help protect women against certain cancers. The daily recommended amount is 1,000 international units (IU). Studies have specifically associated additional vitamin D with lowering a woman's risk of colon, ovarian, and breast cancers. Since Vitamin D is primarily absorbed through sun exposure, it can be difficult to get adequate amounts. Taking a supplement has been recommended as a way to boost levels of Vitamin D. Cinnamon: Need energy? Cinnamon may be the thing to rev up energy. According to the Discovery Health Journal, cinnamon wards against fatigue by helping to regulate blood sugar levels. The recommended amount varies, depending on each person's needs. Grape seed extract: This supplement has been shown to assist in the prevention of wrinkles and skin cancer. This is due to its richness in a class of antioxidants known as proanthocyanidins. Studies in animals have found that grape seed extract may reverse signs of aging caused by UV rays, and in the supplemental pill form, it aids in maintaining two of the most important aspects of creating smooth skin: collagen and elastin. The recommended daily average of grape seed extract is 60 to 180 milligrams. Calcium: Many people take calcium supplements for bone health. But for women specifically, it's known to subdue premenstrual symptoms (PMS) that so many suffer from. Studies have shown that women getting 800 milligrams of a calcium supplement daily for 2 weeks leading up to the menstrual cycle beginning have a much lower risk of developing symptoms of PMS. And, of course, it has been linked to a decreased risk of osteoporosis — a bone disease that disproportionately impacts women. Consider incorporating these supplements into your daily supplement regimen to help you feel live with wonder.
